Teri Weisz Obituary

Teri K. (Hopson) Weisz, age 60, of Rancho Mission Viejo, CA, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020.

Visitation, 9am-7pm, Friday, August 7th, with family present, 5:30-7pm; Services, 10:30am, Saturday, August 8th, BOTH at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary, Clearwater.

Teri Kay Hopson was born on Thursday, May 26, 1960 in Wichita, Kansas, to her parents, W. Bruce Hopson and Janice M. (Henderson) Hopson. After her dad’s graduation from Kansas State University in 1964, the family moved to Westminster, California. Teri attended Elementary School in Westminster until they moved to Mission Viejo, CA in 1972. She attended Mission Viejo schools until she graduated from Mission Viejo High School in 1978. Teri attended Fairview Church of Christ in Garden Grove, where she was baptized into Christ during her teenage years.

Teri went to California State College in San Diego. It was there that she met James Weisz. They transferred to the University of Texas in Austin and graduated in 1982. Teri came home to Mission Viejo and found work at McDonnell Douglas in Huntington Beach. On December 11, 1982, Teri married James Weisz in Santa Ana, CA.

The rest of Teri’s story is the story of “James and Teri”. They worked in Southern California for a while; then they moved to Virginia, so James could pursue a law degree from the University of Virginia. During their time at the University of Virginia, Teri saw a need to start a bookstore. It was called The Data Center, a place for students to get what they needed for their classes.

After James graduated, they lived in Washington, D.C., then Virginia. During these years, they had two children, James, Jr, and John. The family moved to Southern California, then Bowling Green, Kentucky, and back to Southern California. By this time, their third child, Julie joined the family. Teri homeschooled their children during the elementary school years.

Teri’s love for horses, riding them, and taking care of them, developed into a way for her to show horses and run the family horse business. Teri was a very devoted wife and mother to her family.

Survived by husband, James Weisz of Rancho Mission Viejo, CA; sons, Jim (Amber) Weisz, Jr. of Beaumont, CA, John (Mai) Weisz of Irvine, CA; daughter, Julie Weisz of Bonsall, CA; parents, W. Bruce and Janice (Henderson) Hopson of Clearwater; brother, Robert (Brenda) Hopson of Ladera Ranch, CA.
