Bernice (Ebbers) Schmitt, age 97, school teacher and bookkeeper for family owned farm equipment dealership, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020.

Bernice Bertha Ebbers Schmitt was born on August 13, 1923 on a farm east of Daykin Nebraska to Henry and Mary Ebbers. She attended rural schools for 8 years and graduated from Fairbury High School in 1941. She was a member of the National Honor Society.
She began teaching in a rural school and then in the Daykin Grade School teaching grades one through four. As she completed her advanced degrees in Business Education, English, Social Studies, and Real Estate, she taught at the Fairbury Junior College and Southeast Community College in Beatrice for forty-five years. She was a member of honorary organizations Delta Kappa Gamma and Phi Theta Kappa. For two years she was invited and wrote questions for the ACT. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Also, she was a long-time member of the Daykin United Methodist Church, holding many positions and was one of several pianists in the church. She helped in the family owned International Harvester dealership in Daykin, as bookkeeper for over 30 years.
On June 2, 1950 she was united in marriage to Harold Lloyd Schmitt of Daykin. A premature son was born in 1953, but he lived only a few hours. Ron Ralph Schmitt was born on August 23, 1962. He is a mechanical engineer. He worked for Boeing and now Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita, KS.
Surviving Bernice are Ron and his wife, Yvonne of Derby, KS, sister-in-law Ardelle Ebbers, of rural Daykin, NE and many nieces and nephews.
Proceeding her in death were her parents, Henry and Mary Ebbers. Her husband, Harold Schmitt. Brothers and sisters who preceded her in death are: Harvey Ebbers of Wilber, NE, Leona Burd of Fairbury, NE, Verena Stewart of Lincoln, NE, Esther Schmidt of rural Fairbury, NE, and Glenn Ebbers of rural Daykin, NE.
