Alva Joseph "Alvie" Cook, age 81, passed away at his home near Anson, KS, on Sunday, March 7, 2021. Visitation, 9am-7pm, Wednesday, March 10, 2021, with family present, 5:30-7pm. Funeral 10am, Thursday, March 11, 2021, BOTH at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary Chapel, Clearwater. Alva was born to Alva L. And Jennie Cox Stuckey Cook at home in South Wichita, Kansas, on November 3, 1939. He was the youngest of eight children. Known as “Alvie” or “Sonny”, Alvie attended Enterprise Elementary School in Haysville, KS, Allison Junior High in South Wichita, and graduated from Wichita West High School in 1957. After graduation, Alvie farmed the family land in Sedgwick County. On August 26, 1961, Alvie married Dorla Craig at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Wichita. In 1965, Alvie and Dorla moved to their farm in Sumner County where they raised wheat, cattle, and two sons. Alvie served 8 years on the Sumner Township board and 30 years on the Sumner County Planning and Zoning Board. He enjoyed raising watermelons and produce, going to farmers markets and the Winfield livestock sale. He loved giving away watermelons to family and friends. Alvie shared that he became a Christian at 7 years old, serving the Lord for the rest of his life. The family attended the Free Church of Living God in Wichita where Alvie served as Adult Sunday school teacher for 25 years and held the office of Deacon for over 40 years. Preceded by parents, Alva and Jennie (Cox) Stuckey Cook; infant daughter, Janis Kay Cook; siblings, Edward C. "Eddie" Stuckey, Harold "Bill" R. Stuckey, Roy G. Stuckey, Virginia (George) Horn, Bertha (George) Whisenant, and Esther (Arnold) Blevins. Survivors: wife, Dorla; sons, Gary (Svetlana) Cook of Wichita, Stephen (Aimee) Cook of Elk Falls; sister, Alberta Jordan; grandchildren, Gary Cook, II, Rachel Cook, Joseph Cook, Deborah Cook, Matthew Cook, Aaron Cook, and Angela (Morgan) Cook Wakefield; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
