Viola- Alice J. (DeHaven) Hahn, age 90, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 30, 2018. She was born DeQueen, Arkansas on January 1, 1928 where the family were living to help her dad’s brother on a farm during the depression. Being a girl she was proud to be the Woodland School Marble Champion in 5th grade. She graduated from Wichita High School North in 1945. Among her jobs was the lunch counter at S.H. Kress & Co. and a switchboard operator. She retired from Pawnee Plastics where she worked several years later in life. She was a member at Central Community Church, Wichita, Kansas. Her most important accomplishments were her children and grandchildren. She was involved in the community serving on the Viola City Counsel. She enjoyed her grandchildren, going to their sporting events, traveling, flower gardening, family get togethers, reading, history, collecting clippies, garage sales, and auctions. She looked forward to attending River Festival and buying Christmas ornaments for her family members. One of her most memorable times was the day WWII ended. The switch boards lit up. Her parents drove to pick her up because of the mass celebrations. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Verna Lucile (Monasmith) De Haven; 5 sisters, 3 brothers, and a great-grandson. She is survived by her brother, Earl DeHaven and sister, Patsy Black; and children, Joyce (Hahn) Johanning (Dave), Meriden, KS, Steve Hahn, Hanford, CA, Sue (Hahn) Freund, Indiahoma, OK, Albert (Skip) Hahn (Diane), Peck, KS, Kenneth Hahn (Glenda), Cody, WY, 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation, 9am-7pm, Thursday, November 8, 2018, with family present 5:30-7pm. Services, 10am, Friday, November 9, 2018, BOTH at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary at Clearwater, KS. Committal Services, at 1pm, Friday, November 9, 2018, at the Kechi Cemetery, Kechi Township, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Viola Fire Department, Box 302, Viola, KS 67149 and the DeHaven Reunion Fund, c/o Joyce Johanning, 6311 Hickory Pl, Meriden, KS 66512, in honor of her parents.
