Bethel, Terry

1199

Terry Lee Bethel was born on April 19, 1954 to Thomas Edward and Betty D.(Morgan) Bethel, in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was the youngest of three children: his brother, Lloyd, was twelve years older than him, and his sister, Linda, was six.  He grew up in the hills of southern Ohio, farming and fielding, and often getting into trouble and mischief with his best friend and cousin, Keith Bethel.  In 1972, he graduated from Huntington High School, and shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Air Force.  He was stationed at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Ks, at the time he met his lifelong love, Annetta Faye Whitson.  On June 24, 1973, they married, and this past summer, they celebrated 43 years of marriage together.

Terry and Annetta had four children: son, Joshua Robert; twin daughters, Mary and Betty (deceased); and daughter, Terretta Ann.  He was fondly referred to by his children as “Pops,” and to his three granddaughters, Addison, Natalie and Josie, as “Grandpy” or “Papa.”  He also had two step-grandchildren: Zach and Kaitlyn Swick.

Terry spent much of his working life in aircraft.  He worked in supervision at Bombardier Learjet, serving nearly 25 years in various departments: sheet metal assembly, fuselage, wing shop and weld shop. In between layoffs, he also worked at Boeing and Big Dog Motorcycles.

In addition to being a devoted provider to his wife and children, Terry was a “second dad” to many of the friends and classmates to Josh and Terretta.  He held special regard to his sister and all of his family back home in Ohio, and also maintained an extremely close relationship with Annetta’s parents (Ed & Mary Whitson) and brothers (Ed, Don & Gerry Whitson) here in Kansas and Oklahoma. And throughout the years, he developed lifelong friendships, claiming a handful of them as his “brothers.”

All throughout his life, Terry had a passion for classic cars and trucks, and his dogs. He owned many, many dogs throughout the years! Later in his life, he fell in love with riding motorcycles.  He loved working on the cars, being out in his garage and listening to all his favorite music---he was a good ol’ country boy who loved to rock! Additionally, Terry was a very proud Vietnam Era veteran; he was proud to have served his country and held all other veterans near and dear to his heart.

On Sunday, August 14, 2016, Terry passed away.  He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, mother and father-in-law, and twin daughters.

Despite the many years of battling a number of health issues, Terry remained committed to taking care of his family.  He had breakfast ready for his wife every morning.  If his children or grandchildren had a need, he filled it.  Being a husband, dad and grandpa were his greatest joys in life.  He will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
