Dorothy M. (Janzen) Sangals, of Clearwater, age 94, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013.

 

Visitation, 9am-8pm, Wed, Webb-Shinkle Mortuary. Services, 9am, Thurs, River Valley Community Church.

 

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Erwin Sangals; brothers, Arnold Janzen, Erwin Janzen; sister, Edna Bartel.  She is survived by sons, Larry (Lin) Sangals of Hutchinson, Ron (Murielyn) Sangals of Viola, sister-in-law, Jean Janzen of Denver, CO; 4 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren.

Leta Mae (Johnson) Barrett, of Clearwater, age 90, retired Boeing aeronautical engineer, was carried home to be with her Lord Jesus, Friday, November 29, 2013.

 

Visitation, 9am-8pm, Tuesday, December 3, w/family present, 6-7:30pm, Webb-Shinkle Mortuary. Services, 2pm, Wednesday, December 4, at the First Christian Church in Clearwater, KS.

 

Leta Mae was born on March 31, 1923 in Edmond, OK. She and  Russel Nelson Barrett were married on August 4, 1956 in Wichita, KS.  She was a lifeguard during her early years. While still in college, she was recruited by Curtis Wright during WWII for her Math and Science skills, becoming one of the first women aeronautical engineers. She helped integrate the inertial guidance system in ICBM’s. In the early 2000s, after meeting an astronaut, she learned that some of her work was used in the space shuttle program. Leta Mae was a small aircraft pilot, Camp Fire Girl Leader for 11yrs, she taught and tutored, and after retiring, taught the lost art of tatting. She frequently took food, including her homemade baked goods to co-workers, friends, and neighbors. She enjoyed knitting, embroidery,  sewing, cooking, baking, and was an avid reader. She was a member of EHU and Eastern Star.

 

Leta Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Damon and Ida Lou Johnson, and sister-in-law, Donna (Knox) Johnson. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Russel; son, John (Anita) Barrett of Goddard, daughter, Char (Mark) Burke of Clearwater; brother, Ray Johnson of Owasso, OK; grandchildren, Emily (Rob) Barrett Simms, Lawrence Barrett, Hope Burke, Rachel Barrett and Noelle Burke; and great-granddaughter, Jaelynn Simms.

Leta Mae was a greatly accomplished woman in many areas of her life, but more importantly, she loved her family and friends, and above all, she loved her Lord Jesus Christ.

Kathryn was born on Tuesday, August 13, 1929 to her parents H.G. Losey and Amelia Jane (Ware) Losey. Kathryn was in the nursing profession for 35 years.

 

Preceded by parents, Glen and Amelia (Ware) Losey; brothers, Walter and Howard Losey. Survivors: children, Sherri (Michael) Lemon of Lawrence, Brenda (Gary) Froetschner of Garfield, Debra (Dwight) Million of Colorado Springs, CO, Michael (Regina) Dodd of Wichita, and Carol (Larry) Zaritz of Eudora. 3 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren.

Noland Opal oval 2  Opal L. (Doornbos) Noland, age 86, of Clearwater, retired Cosmetologist, passed away Friday, November 15, 2013.

 

Visitation, 1-5pm, Sun, with family present, 3-4pm, Webb-Shinkle Mortuary. Services, 10am, Mon, Clearwater United Methodist Church.

 

Opal was born on Sunday, November 6, 1927 to her parents, Virgil and Sena (Randall) Doornbos. She was the youngest of four children.

 

 

Opal grew up on a farm northeast of El Dorado and attended a one room schoolhouse with her two sisters and brother. She attended high school also in El Dorado. On June 26, 1945, she was united in marriage to Hugh "Ed" Noland in El Dorado, Kansas. They made their first home in El Dorado for a few years, before returning to the family farm she grew up on. They remained on the farm until they moved to Clearwater in 1960. 

 

After moving to Clearwater, Opal attended "beauty school" as she called it, and later opened the "Klip & Kurl" in her home in 1962 until 1978. She was a member of the Clearwater United Methodist Church. She was very active in the choir in church. She supported numerous missions and attended Sunday School and church faithfully.

 

Opal enjoyed flowers, gardening, crafts, sewing, crocheting and knitting. She was a wonderful at making pies and cinnamon rolls. One tradition at Christmas was her "famous" Cinnamon Roll Tree. That was always Christmas mornings breakfast. She was also known to her grandchildren as the maker of the Easter Bunny Cake.

 

Preceded by her husband of 64 years, Ed; son, Kraig; sister, Minabell Doornbos; brother, Robert Doornbos. Survivors: son, Kris (Sue) Noland of Clearwater; sister, Janeva (Walter) Grist of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Justin (Adrienne) Noland, Stacia (John) Brenneman, Natalie (Martin) Herrera, Kristopher Noland, Jonathan Noland, Alexander Noland; great-grandchildren, Rylie, Brett, Brynne, & Callie Noland, Natalie & Emily Brenneman, Kristina, Martin, & Juliette Herrera; 2 great-great grandchildren.

Self of Eugene, OR; sister, Terrie (Jim) Huntington of Fairway, KS; and grandchildren Kirra and Kona Adamosky of St. Petersburg, FL.
