Ruth was born August 9, 1929, in Wichita, Kansas. She was the third of five children born to her parents, Clarence Joel Deaver and Purna Alice (Davis) Deaver. She was united in marriage on February 25, 1955 in Wichita, Kansas, to John Dee Davis.
Ruth was preceded in death by sister, Emma Anderson; brother, Robert Deaver. Survivors: husband, John D. Maxine (Darling) Hockett, age 94, of Clearwater, retired Owner and Operator of Maxine’s Beauty Shop, passed away Monday, October 15, 2012. Visitation, 9am-7pm, Thursday, October 18, 2012, with family present, 5-6:30pm, at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary. Services, 10:30am, Friday, October 19, 2012, First Christian Church.
Maxine Hockett was born on Wednesday, March 27, 1918 in Wichita, Kansas. She was the oldest of three children born to her parents, Ivan Frank Darling and Mattie Murphy Kanatzar. She started school in Wichita schools and later, they moved to Augusta and Benton. At the age of 10, they moved to Clearwater Schools. She graduated from Clearwater High School in 1935. After high school, she went on to attend vocational school in 1938. From 1939-1942 she owned and operated a beauty shop in the former Odd Fellows Building in Clearwater. In 1955, she returned to operate a shop through 1979 where Bales Pharmacy is now located on Ross St. She retired in 1979.
Maxine was united in marriage to Gilbert Claude “Hank” Hockett on July 29, 1942 in Pratt, Kansas. They made their first home in Clonmel before moving into Clearwater in 1947. He preceded her in death on December 19, 1988.
Maxine was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church in Clearwater. She was also a member of the Clearwater Golden Chain. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, and quilting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert “Hank” Hockett; parents, Ivan and Mattie (Kanatzar) Darling; step-father, Maurice Turpin; brother, Ivan Verne Darling. Survivors: sons, James (Pat) Hockett of Topeka, Claude (Barbara) Hockett of House Springs, MO; sister, Jean (Clayton) Blough of Wichita; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild. Bernice “Bea” (Carter) Chambers Wittorff, of Clearwater, retired Garvey Grain Elevator Manager of Peck, age 95, passed away Monday, October 8, 2012. Bea was born on Monday, November 27, 1916. She was one of three children born to her parents, Harry Albert Carter and Pearl Faye (Johnston) Carter.
Bea was united in her first marriage on March 22, 1940 to Audley E. Chambers in Wichita, Kansas. They were married 35 years before he passed away on July 17, 1975. She was united in her second marriage on January 16, 1977 to Melvin D. Wittorff in Inman, Kansas. He passed away on December 12, 1983.
Bea was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Audley E. Chambers; 2nd husband, Melvin D. Wittorff; parents, Harry and Pearl (Johnston) Carter; brother, Byrl Carter. Francis James Dugan, Jr., age 77, retired transportation broker, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012. Private Family services have been held.
Jim was born on Monday, October 22, 1934 in Wichita, Kansas. He was the oldest of three sons born to his parents, Francis James Dugan and Catherine Josephine Neville Dugan. He was preceded in death by his father on October 26, 1993 and his mother on June 24, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Jo Newman.
Jim is survived by his wife, Carolyn J. (Miller) Baird-Dugan. They were united in marriage on February 13, 1998 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his daughters, Julie (Dan) Scott of Fresno, CA, Coleen (Phil) Dugan of Coarsegold, CA; step-daughters, Susan Baird-Bakhtiari of Wichita, KS, Sandi (Arvel) Baird-Hensley of Wichita, KS; step-son, Jeff Baird (Brigette) of Clearwater; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan and Nedra Dugan of Viola, Pat and Carol Dugan of Wichita; 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren.
