 storm over wheatHenry G. “Hank” Light, age 89, of Conway Springs, ret. farmer, WWII vet, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013.

Hank was born on Friday, January 25, 1924 in rural Conway Springs. He was the youngest of 12 children born to his parents, Charles Alexander Light and Ella Burson Davies Light. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Riggs on November 2, 1952 in Conway Springs.

Visitation, 9am-8pm, Tues, with family present, 5:30-7pm, Webb-Shinkle Mortuary. Services, 1:30pm, on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at First Christian Church, Conway Springs.

Preceded by his parents, Charles and Ella (Davies) Light; siblings,Verna Williams, Irene Cantrell, Mabel Light, Donna Parsons, Bud Light, Earl Light, Pearl Hammers, Leonard Light, and Dick Light. Survivors: wife of 60 yrs, Mary Jane; son, George (Sharon) Light of Clearwater; sisters, Mattie Hardesty of Clearwater, Margie Foley of Cheney; grandchildren, Justin (Holly), Jordan (Jaime), Joshua (Sara), and Jacob (Amber) Light; great-grandchildren, George Cade, Carly, Colter, Shelby, and Isaac Light.

Barbara J. (Harroff) Stevens, of Clearwater,  LPN and homemaker, passed away Monday, August 26, 2013.

Visitation, Noon-8pm, Wednesday, August 28th, with family present, 5-7pm, Webb-Shinkle Mortuary. Services, 10am, Thursday, Aug 29th, at Clearwater United Methodist Church. Graveside Services, 3pm (EST), Friday, Aug 30th, Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles, MI. Barbara was born on August 15, 1932 in Niles, Michigan, to her parents Clarence and Marion Harroff. She was united in marriage to Dale E. Stevens on January 3, 1959 in Niles, Michigan. Preceded in death by her husband, Dale; daughter, Connie Chew; parents, Clarence and Marion Harroff; brothers, James and Carl. Survivors: sons, Mark (Keri) Stevens of Clearwater, Michael (Janet) Stevens of Hartsville, TN; daughters, Heidi (Mark) Jolliffe of Wichita, Hayley (Jim) Bieker of Clearwater; brother, Gail (Barbara) Harroff of Georgetown, TX; grandchildren, Joey Beyer, Micha Truong, Santtana Seal, Miranda Seal, Bleir Beyer, Garrison Chew, Landon Chew, Megan, Emma, Michael Stevens; great-grandchildren, Madison Seal, Jada Bell Seal, London Truong, and Aiden Beyer.

Jesse D. Headgepath, age 72, ret. superintendent for city/county flood control, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013. 

 

Jesse was born on Tuesday, November 19, 1940 in Bell Gardens Precinct of Los Angeles, California. He was the second of four children born to his parents, Earl Henry Headgepath and Mary Lucille Forshee. On October 25, 1959, Jesse was united in marriage to Janice E. Simons at Meridian Ave. Baptist Church in west Wichita, Kansas. He worked as Flood Control Supervisor for city/country in Wichita for 32 years. 

 

Jesse was a member of the First Christian Church in Clearwater. He was also an Elks Post Exalted Ruler and Member, a life member of the Elks. He was a former member of Ninnescah Good Sam’s Camping Group. He enjoyed camping, Boating, and traveling. He loved to tell jokes and stories. 

 

Preceded by son, J.D. Headgepath, Jr; parents, Earl and Mary (Forshee) Headgepath. Survivors: wife of 53+years, Janice; son, Terry (Dynette) Headgepath of Clearwater; brother, Earl H. Headgepath, II (Eileen) of Sepulpa, OK; sisters, Louise Gleeson, Brenda (Carl) Myers, all of Wichita; grandchildren, Kayla Headgepath-Nott, Cory, Jacob, Emily Headgepath, Annie Headgepath-Robinson, Zach and Braden Hill; great-granddaughter, Sophia Robinson.

 

Services were held on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 11am, at the First Christian Church. Interment was in Clearwater Cemetery.  Memorials have been established with First Christian Church, 524 Wood, Clearwater, KS 67026.

Schulte - Schmitz, Theodoris J. “Ted”, age 91, farmer, WWII vet, passed away Friday, August 23, 2013. Born March 2, 1922 in Schulte, Kansas, the son of Theodore and Matilda (Biggs) Schmitz. He married Betty (Lohkamp) on April 15, 1947. He was a charter member of the Schulte-Clonmel Knights of Columbus. Survivors: brother, Francis Schmitz of College Station, TX; sons, John of Schulte, Jim (Karla) of Conway Springs; daughter, Susan (Gary) Hughes of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Douglas Hughes, Jennifer Hughes, Amy Schmitz, Abby Schmitz, Patrick (Catherine) Schmitz, Jill Schmitz, Laura Schmitz; great-grandchildren, Jesse Miller, Declan Schmitz, Kenan Schmitz.  Smith Kenneth 2 Kenneth D. Smith, age 81, of Wichita, original Owner/Operator of Ken’s Auto Tow, passed away Sun, Aug 18, 2013. Visitation 9am - 8pm, Thurs, w/family 5:30-7pm, Webb-Shinkle Mortuary. Services, 10am, Friday,  Glenville Baptist Church, Wichita.  

Ken was born on a farm outside of Moran, KS, August 9, 1932, to Gano and Sarah Smith. While attending Iola Junior College he worked at the Skelly Station and married his high school sweetheart, Lois Tidd, on May 23, 1951. They moved to Wichita where he was employed by McKay Plymouth/Chrysler as a service advisor. Before his second child was born, Ken went to work for Butts Cadillac/Oldsmobile (later Bulger). He was a service advisor for 30 years, always taking time. for family vacations & weekend boating  & camping. He opened Ken’s Conoco Station at 31st & Seneca in 1974 as a family operated business. Ken & Lois established Ken’s Auto Tow in 1987. After retiring they traveled the country, especially with their Good Sam’s Club. Ken was a devoted husband, father, and pillar to all of his family members & friends. Preceded by his wife, Lois; son, Dwight; three sisters, and one brother. Survivors: daughter, Deborah (Joe) Garcia of Wichita; daughter-in-law, Leslie Smith of Wichita; grandchildren, Michelle and Jennifer; step-grandchildren, Molly and Samantha; and 5 great-grandchildren. Boodle was born on August 6, 1927 to her parents, Otis William Jennings and Velma (Mann) Jennings. She was united in marriage to Ennis H. "Tiny" Woods, Jr, on August 29, 1946 in Oakland, California. They had 65 years together before he passed away on April 10, 2012.

Preceded by her husband, Tiny; parents, Otis and Velma (Mann) Jennings; sister, Opal Kirby; brother, O.V. Jennings.
