George was born on Thursday, August 22, 1935 in Longton, Kansas. He was the youngest of seven children born to his parents, Edward and Louise M. (Buse) Walta. He was united in marriage to Melba Louise Lundy on August 16, 1958 in Cambridge, Kansas. Melba passed away on January 18, 2005.
Preceded by his wife, Melba (Lundy) Walta; parents, Ed & Louise Walta; brothers, Frank, Lewis, and Edward Walta; sisters, Rose Drake and Agnes Shinkle. Survivors: daughter, Christy Walta of Goddard; brother, Robert (Dorothy) Walta of Bonner Springs.

Douglas Lee Stanley, age 57, of Goddard, Managing Partner of the Foulston Siefkin Law Firm, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013, after a well fought battle with Bile Duct Cancer.
Visitation, 9am-4pm, Friday, at Webb-Shinkle Mortuary Chapel. Rosary, 7pm, Friday, April 5th, and a Funeral Mass, 11am, Saturday, April 6th, both at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Schulte.
Born to Lee and Joanne (Treiber) Stanley in Topeka, on August 27, 1955, he was the oldest of 7 children. Doug attended Sacred Heart Elementary School and Seaman High School. He began working at the Topeka Police Department in 1975 and was united in marriage to his wife, Sheryl in 1979. He received his undergraduate degree in Economics and Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Washburn University in 1981, all in Topeka, before starting Law School. Stanley received his Law Degree from the University of Kansas where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review and began his legal career with Foulston Siefkin in 1984. His practice focused on employment and labor law matters including serving as a trusted advisor to Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. His honors included being named Wichita Labor & Employment Lawyer of the Year by the Best Lawyers in America, being selected by his peers as a Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyer, and chosen by Who’s Who Legal USA as a leading employment lawyer in the United States. He was elected as a Fellow to the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers. Doug cared deeply about Wichita and served as a member of the Board of Directors of Wichita Business Coalition on Health Care and the Wichita Chamber/GWEDC Leadership Council, Bar Associations as well as numerous community organizations, church committees and choir. He was also Chair of Newman University Board of Trustees, a past chair of Greater Wichita Economic Development Coalition Steering Committee, a member of the Newman De Mattias Society and Wichita Legatus Group. Through the years he assisted with and attended all sorts of ball games and musicals for his children, patiently taught them golf and attended Boy Scout camps including the Philmont Trek with son, Chris, and a high adventure camp with his daughters. He proudly saw all five children fulfill the rank of Eagle Scout and the comparable Girl Scout Gold Award. He worked hard and tirelessly on behalf of the fellow lawyers, clients, faith and family, making a difference in the lives of many.
He is survived by his spouse of 34 years, Sheryl; 5 children, Katie (Clayton) Potter and granddaughters, Aubrey & Peyton of Wichita, Amanda Marshall of Topeka, Christopher (fiancee Beth) Stanley, Rachel & Diana Stanley all of Wichita; parents, Lee and Joanne Stanley of Ozawkie; aunt, Erma Trieber of Topeka; 3 brothers, David Stanley of Oskaloosa, Mark Stanley of Topeka, Scott (Wendi) Stanley of Ozawkie; 3 sisters, Brenda (Terry) Lister of Topeka, Susan Grey of Valley Falls, and Kellie (Les) Puderbaugh of Independence; In-Laws, Alice (Krogman) Doyle-Lindemuth, Greg Doyle and Jim (Anita) Doyle of Topeka; 16 nieces and nephews; and 14 great-nieces/nephews and many cousins.

Edith was born on Saturday, July 24, 1920 in Olin, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Norval E. Maness on April 18, 1940 in Liberty, Missouri.

Chichester, Laura E., age 102, of Harrington, WA, formerly of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 16, 2013. She was just one month shy of her 103rd birthday. Services, 10:00am, Sat, March 23, Emporia Avenue Church of Christ. Laura Emma Wacker Chichester was born April 12, 1910 in Wayne Co., NE.
She was the first of six children born to Fred and Mary Wacker. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and remained a quiet but committed Christian all her life. At her death she was a member of the Ephrata Church of Christ. Laura graduated from Winside, NE High School in 1928. Two years later she married Melvin Chichester, a Wayne Co. neighbor, and this marriage was blessed with six children. Laura and Melvin farmed in Wayne Co. until 1941, when they moved to Wichita, KS where Melvin worked in the aircraft industry. After 27 years of marriage Laura became a widow in 1957 when Melvin died unexpectedly while at work. After completing her years as a homemaker, Laura worked as a seamstress at a department store and later provided senior care to neighbors. She was a Wichita resident for 66 years and then moved to WA state to enjoy the loving care and company of her daughters.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Elmer, Don and Howard; sisters, Mildred and LaVerna; son-in-law, William Nighswonger; and grandson, James Chichester. She is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses, Carolyn and Henry Greer of Harrington, WA, Joan and Romayne Chinnock of Grand Terrace, CA, Duane and Betty Jo Chichester of Oceanside, CA, Warren and Shirley Chichester of Naples, FL, Mary Woodin of Harrington, WA, and Ron and Patty Chichester of Clearwater, KS; her seventeen grandchildren; her thirty-five great grandchildren; her seventeen great great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Ruth, Dottie and Marcella Wacker.
Her many relatives and friends will remember Laura for her devotion to family, community and God; her calm, cheerful, optimistic attitude; her hard work, thrift and generosity; and her grace and courage in the face of life’s adversities. Laura believed and demonstrated that keeping busy and involved was a key to a long and happy life. She, therefore, had many interests, including needlework (especially quilting), gardening and traveling. She took many trips to weddings and family reunions. Laura will be laid to rest beside her husband in Wichita Park Cemetery.
